Another sign of the economic challenges we are facing is a modification to the mystery shopper scam. The victim is contacted by email stating that they have been selected to be a mystery shopper to evaluate customer service at Western Union. They receive a check for $4000 and are asked to send a check for $3000 through the local Western Union office to an address and then keep the balance for their fee. The check sent to them is bogus and they are now out the money.
