This workshop defines sexual violence and discusses the common myths and stereotypes that still exist around sexual assault and the various ways a person may react to an assault.  Participants will also learn about resources and services available for victims in Queens, how to help someone who has been victimized, and explore ways to get involved during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and beyond.  Also, learn about Denim Day, an annual day to raise awareness around the stigma, myths, and victim-blaming that still exists for survivors of sexual violence…and what you or your organization can do to participate!

The workshop will be presented by Angela Fernandez, Outreach & Training Program Coordinator at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention (SAVI) Program for over 8 years. In this capacity, Ms. Fernandez is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of all outreach, training, and educational programming and public relations activities for the SAVI Program and has presented workshops all over New York City.
