alliance_home_02What happens when a sexual assault survivor goes to a hospital emergency room after an attack? It is essential to have trained professionals in hospital emergency rooms who have experience dealing with sexual violence victims to ensure that they receive the best care possible, while also ensuring that proper procedures are followed to assist law enforcement with the investigation of the assault; otherwise the experience can be just as traumatic as the assault itself.

This week, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone talks with Dr. Sultan Torshkhoev and Amy Edelstein from the NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examinar) Preceptorship training program, which has been at the forefront of developing new leaders and steering policies and procedures throughout New York City. This is a model program that can be replicated all over the country and a show you’ll want to save.

For more information about the SAFE PROGRAM, go to the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault website http://www.svfreenyc.org or email mailto: contact-us@nycagainstrape.org.
