The Rape Declaration Forum:  Sexual violence has physically and emotionally scarred the lives of millions of victims and their families, friends and colleagues; touching all genders, ages, races and economic groups.  In order to raise awareness about this scourge, encourage prevention iniatives and let survivors know what services are available to aid them, April has been declared National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and I thought you and I should start to prepare for it with tonight’s show.  So, I’m once again speaking with my buddies Rebecca Myles and Jaye Grayce from the Rape Declaration Forum radio show which airs on WBAI 95.5FM.  And, you’ll hear, up close and personal, one of their show’s courageous callers describing her experience.  Rebecca and Jaye told me it she was one of their most powerful callers yet.

Preparing for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Then I talk with Tracy Cox from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, which is the leading resource on Sexual Assault Awareness Month, about how your organization can initiate SAAM activities and you can also find out what’s going on in your local area right from their website.  On the SAAM site, you’ll find information and materials for both upcoming and past campaigns that can be tailored for local communities and reinforce the need for prevention efforts.  Take a look at this video for inspiration:  http://www.youtube.com/user/NSVRC?feature=mhum

Personal Safety Products You’re Going to Love.  And, last but not least, I’ve got a few great personal safety products that I know you’re going to love.  You’ve just got to hear about the Garment Hideaway, for example.  It looks like a tank top hanging in your closet but it’s really a clever place to hide valuables in plain sight and fool thieves. Be sure to stick around to the end.
